Sony Computer Entertainment today announced a partnership with advertising agency Double Fusion to bring in-game advertising to PlayStation 3 titles.

Double Fusion, whose roster of clients includes Gearbox Software, NCSoft and THQ, utilizes specialized technology to deliver dynamic and context-oriented advertisements to audiences.

"PS3 is open for the ad business," said SCEA senior VP Phil Rosenberg. "We are very excited about hosting contextually relevant and well-crafted creative advertising on PS3. PlayStation is taking a major role in enabling this fast-developing sector that is positive for the games medium."

The companies did not directly specify which titles or services will see the incorporation of in-game ads, nor did they mention when the advertisements will materialize.
NCSOFT is up there, could this be it?

The only times pc version is superior to console versions ones is when you want to use
- 3rd party programs
- texture mod

Otherwise it doesn't hurt having console versions.

Guild wars 2 would be perfect for console because there's no monthly fee and some of the high graphics that PS3 and Xbox 360 does is at about medium to high now for PC users which I think Guild Wars 2 will be when its released in 2009 or whenever its released

I'd like it, it would get more people into the game and console games these days tend to sell better than PC games

Someone told me PC gaming is dieing
DO you know how much more funding they would need ? everyone who plays guild wars now has a computer, and everyone who will buy gw2 will have a computer - So why would they make it for other game consoles and lessen their computer game sales to spend money to make console games ?

The expense and inconvenience of this would probably put most off, and many would simply give up on their 'GW on a console' dream, or simply buy a PC. This would make production of GW2 for consoles unprofitable and unneccessary.

Console games generally in my experience have far less complicated interfaces than similar PC games due to the nature of console play. For many consoles were used with small TVs, and viewed at a considerably larger distance than PC monitors, using the interface would be impossible for many in this situation, forcing them to spend more money upgrading their equipment and moving to a desk. By this point it would have been cheaper to buy a PC with a monitor keyboard and mouse all thrown in.
Ahh Yes. My second approach. - Whats the point of playing it on a Console if you're still using a keyboard and mouse ? It seems like these threads are becoming idealisms for peoples "Inventions" - or on some sort of mentality such as. Materialization is another thing altogether. You guys do realize that companies usually try to make as much profit as possible ?

GWs price model might be good for consoles, just not the actual game

Consoles dont have the ram to support a large number of on screen charachters. Somebody mentioned devil may cry 4 earlier, well the pc version has a cool little feature called legendary dark knight mode find out what that is then you shall see why pc > consoles for not only DMC but for any game in general.

If GW2 will be able to run on the hardware of a 360 or PS3, I'll be sorely disappointing.

I don't see why. Both consoles are very capable. The 360 can run a strange version of DX10 (not quite DX10, but close enough).

The PS3 can run DX10.1 ported to OpenGL 2.1. You can offload graphics processing to the Cell to double its graphics processing capability.

Here are the reasons I don't see GW on the 360, and why it would at least be a possibility on the PS3.
  1. NCSoft has a contract with Sony to develop an MMO for their PS3 Platform using PSN.
  2. Microsoft uses very propriatary technology in the 360, and the 360 lacks USB keyboard and mouse support without an additional addon thing that looks like a half eaten cookie, and it is third party. The PS3 supports mouse and keyboard out of the box (bluetooth and USB)
  3. PSN is a far more open network and far far easier to code for. In addition, it is free and thus, users wouldn't be paying for Live AND the MMO (if it was pay to play and not GW2)
  4. Playstations have guaranteed HDDs for HDD installs, whereas 360 installs are a new feature, and OPTIONAL. Most 360s don't have an HDD.
  5. Blu Ray would allow NcSoft to make a modern game. If it was GW2, and the file system remained the same (Gw.dat file), that would mean the .dat would be much larger than the current one (assuming all things are the same and just enhanced textures, models, etc and all types of additional controls and content) Blu Ray would be able to fit a 25GB dat file, DVD9 could not.

Now, all the points above are logical. The chances of GW2 coming to PC are 100%. The chances of it coming to PS3 are slim. The chances of it coming to 360 are impossibility. This is just plain fact and logic.

More kids are on a console than a computer. Kids just go on the computer for myspace.

I'd rather Guild Wars just stay on the PC. Then allow us to have profiles, so I can stare at emo girls all day. I jest, I jest...sort of.

Anyway, I can't think of how it would work unless you bought a keyboard for your PS3.

R1, then hold L2 and hit X O SQ and TRI to activate a 1-4 attack combo? Pfft. You know how it'd end up? There won't be rank, there will be this.

"Are you playing from a PS3?"
"Yeah."
"Awesome." /kick

1. Yep thats right and should be interesting what they come up with
2. Thats totally wrong, 360 has both Keyboard and Mouse support, I use a Keyboard on my 360 every day while gaming for MSN and typing things into games, etc, rather than using the on screen keyboard... Mouse support is in the chipset, its just not utilised
3. Ok, I agree that PSN is free, but that doesn;tby any stretch make it better... Not to mention that there is a lot of speculation in the gaming community, even by journalists like myself that Xbox Live will be going free later this year along withthe massive update coming in August/September to update the 360 and the Dashboard on it and add the Mii60's
4. Wrong, the ONLY 360 bundle that comes without a HDD is the Arcade package now and that comes with a memory card... The 20gb model is also being phased out this month to make way for the new 60GB premium console to go on sale at the same price point as the current Premium package that comes with the 20GB model... Microsoft havesaid themselves that only a third of the 360 consoles sold have been CORE packages WITHOUT a HDD...
5. Age of Conan, when released later this year/early next year on the 360 will use the HDD (and you will need one to play the game) for updates and only the core game will come on DvD, just as the PC version did... This will of course mean a stupidly huge 15GB download to start off with and a lot of pissed of 360 gamers that havefoudn out the 20GB HDD just sn't big enough forit, but hey, AoC has been a screw up since release

Your reasoning for NOT coming to either console make no sense and are frankly wrong... However, I personally don't see them bringing it to either console anyway, so its a mute point

And about DX10, no, the 360 is running DX9.0i, yes a strange version and different to DX9.0c from XP and DX10.1 from Vista, but thats due to different archetecture ofthe console and it was written for the 360 specifically... However, I honestly don;t know about the PS3 version of using DX**.*, so I won't comment on it

It would make sense for the PS3 to have it. But 360 no way. You have to pay to play anything online. In fact Sony has a few upcoming MMOs. Which is good, b/c I'd rather see a console company like sony try to do an MMO then one thats a PC.

Those NCsoft and PSN things should like it could be NC doing those MMOs I heard about for PS3. Maybe they are doing the DC comic one?

Thats not true. FPS should never be on a console the sticks really ruin the contorl. Everything becomes blockie and they have to enlarge the hitboxes or add aim assist, thats just lame.

Personally I'd disagree about the FPS thing... but I think thats down to much better coding nowadays, as well as much better controllers, I used to bea die hard PC FPS fan, ut that was back in the day of FPS's on consoles being really bad ports to the consoles... but hell, Iwas even playing DOOM on my 360 yesterday from Xbox Live Arcade and it rocked with a controller... (then i went and playedCOD4 and that was fine too)

Nope, DC Universe Online is being made by Sony Online Entertainment and is PS3 andPC exclusive... However, the new NCSoft game that is coming for PC and Consoles looks like Blade & Storm (Hopefully I've gotten that right, AlexWeekes sent me the link to the Korean site about it, but i will updateas soon as I get the right name) which is a fighting styleMMO using martial arts and thelike... and has a very gory Soul Calibur looking video on the Korean site

And not to mention that its highly rumoured that Live for the 360 may be going free soon, but hell, we'll see if it happens... Although personally, I don't really mind paying the £40 a year for Live Gold, as I get quite a lot of freebies for games for it and yeah, theres a lot of cool stuff on Live

ya... that just what the guild wars community needs about now to bring out the best in um, more of the 12 year old kids that feel they are badass and need to curse into the mic as loud as they can, every time they get a kill in halo3.

the mac ideas not bad... i mean macs are not really gaming pcs, but for the people that really use them mainly for other stuff. if its not too much more work, why not?

Blade and *Soul* I just saw that on MMOsite a while back. I like it, I hope its fee free. Showing Japanese martial arts. http://feature.mmosite.com/content/2...136040,1.shtml And are we sure its this one thats for PS3, b/c NC has alot of upcoming MMOs. and the only place I saw PS3 mentioned was in user comments.

Yeah Live might be free. Games for window live is now free, thats might be where the rumors are coming from.

Yeah but its still choice of the devs. Unless there's program that will allow you to map the keys for it. and I don't think xbox takes usb ones tho.

First of all; seeing we know nothing about GW2 yet; we don't know either if it will be possible to port it to a console or not.

If it sticks too the 8 skills only idea; they could use the same system as they used for selecting skills and weapons in oblivion (the arrows).

That doesn't look to great; but that actually worked semi-great for the online modus of champions (PS2, RPG/hack 'n slash game; had a couple of sequels too).

At the other hand; healing/proting didn't work too great (well it actually did decently for that game; but it wouldn't work out for GW).

Another system they (could) use would be the attack system they used for monster hunter.

Depending on how you pushed the left stick; your character did a different attack.

Again; healing and proting might be a problem; but it could work out fine.

Aside from that; there have been a decent amount of MMO's for PS2.

And having played some; I have to say the servers weren't unbelievably crowed (then again almost none had/has an internet connection for the PS2).

But those games did kick -***.

Personally; I don't see GW1 nor GW2 being ported to PS3. Mainly because it wouldn't work out gameplay wise (atleast not for GW1).

At the other hand; I can see MMO's like Maplequest being ported.
Infact they already ported an MMO to the PS2; everquest. I never played it though; so I don't know how it turned out.

Also about that contract between NCsoft and SOE; isn't that only about "the agency" being (and staying) a PS3 exclusive?

I could be wrong; but I always assumed it was about that.

it does, like I said above, I use mine daily for messaging through my 360 on MSN (when givingmy PC a break)and for entering info it chat/info windows when needed in games and on the dashboard

It also recognises USB mice, but nothing uses them though

1. Yes, that is true, nothing to dispute there.

2.That is completely not true. I use a USB keyboard and mouse on my 360 very often and I have never bought anything 3rd party for it besides games.

3. Just because PSN is free doesn't make it better.

4. The only 360 that doesn't come with an HDD is the Arcade (and the Core, which was discountinued), even so, far more Premiums, Pros and Elites have been sold, which all have HDD's.

5. What is 25GB on Blu-Ray could equate to 8GB on DVD with the serious lack of compression on Blu-Ray. And if they wanted to, they could just have you swap DVDs. It only takes 10 seconds. That's the reason I don't like the PS3's "update system." They'd rather have you do a 5 minute update than have you switch discs once, which takes 10 seconds.
